Jáchymov
Cradle of modern mining
A historical centre of mining, where the foundations were laid for modern global mining, metallurgy, geology and mineralogy. An isolated spa with proven beneficial effects on the human body. An urban monument reserve.
The ideal way to experience the rich history of the at one point, after Prague, second largest town of the Bohemian Kingdom is to start in Hornické Náměstí Square, where the buildings of the Royal Mint (Jáchymov Museum), the Church of St. Jáchym (the first evangelical church in the world) and the Renaissance Town Hall are located. A hoist tower of the Svornost Mine, near which an outdoor mining museum is being built, towers above the buildings.
Adit no.1 is accessible to the public. It is also part of the Jáchymovské Peklo (“Jáchymov Hell“) Nature Trail, which was created by the Barbora Mining Association with the support of the Confederation of Political Prisoners and the Czech Tourist Club. The trail is 8.5 km long and marked by yellow tourist trail markers.
