The town of silver and  gloves

The town of Abertamy is a centre for winter and summer recreation, which has flourished again in the past few years mainly due to its picturesque location at the foot of Plešivec Mt. in the Krušné Hory Mts. Abertamy was established as a mining village near rich silver, tin and iron ore deposits. The last wave of interest was in uranium. The Jeroným and Albrecht shafts were in use in Abertamy itself and the mouth of the Schlick adit was located in the Bystřice Valley below the town. However, Abertamy became famous for its glove making, which finally declined in 1998.

The most interesting places in and around the town can be seen on one of three nature trails, all of which begin in the Náměstí Míru Square near the Information Centre.

Nature Trail 17, called the Abertamy Stop, is 7 km long and retraces the footsteps of Alexander Wüst, a native and owner of a photography school.

The Plešivec Nature Trail, which is 8 km long, leads through a wooded landscape to the top of Plešivec Mt. (1028 m) and then back to Abertamy through the valley of the Bystřice River.

The Hřebečná Nature Trail is also 8 km long. It leads through an ancient tin district with numerous mining remains and ends in an abandoned quarry with perfectly developed columnar jointing of basalt rock.
